Restarting the Engine of the Earth

We are pleased and excited to feature cover art and new media by Pennsylvania-bred and Los Angeles-based artist Christopher Kardambikis. His painting “Restarting the Engine of the Earth” is our background/cover art for this issue, and his animation “Atom Style Variation 1″ is a new media feature!

Artist Statement

Exploring an absurd mythology for the future, my work pulls from a history of book production, science, science fiction, and cosmology. My drawings, prints, and artist books are characterized by my interest in using direction, layering, scale, and circular storytelling to depict a fractured view of a narrative system within which both formal gestures and stories can be generated. My process is one of pulling apart and separating individual elements before recombining and flattening information.
